  • RT2000 & Fastrack66 or Fasttrack66 Pro?

I'm considering buying a RT2000, but I wanted to find out if anyone has it and is using it with a FastTrack66 or the FastTrack66 Pro IDE RAID card. How is performance with one of those? What kind(s) of hard drives are you using it? Does it do the job or do I really need to bite the bullet and get a SCSI array?
Thanks in advance for the info!

    alexwt,

Several users of RT2000 are using the FT66 without problems.

But, the RT2000 will work just fine with normal UDMA33 drives and controllers, you do not need the FT for that.

SCSI doesn't give you better transfer rates over IDE, that claim was only valid some years ago, when the DMA drivers for IDE were not yet quite there (or non-existent).

I use a Fasttrak66 with my RT-2000 and they play very nicely together.

I would NOT, however, use the older Fasttrak33 with the RT-2000. The Fasttrak33 has a higher PCI bus utilization that can cause problems with audio synch in some setups.

      My Fasttrack66 setup:

All drives are 40 gig Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40 ATA66 7,200 rpm drives.

These drives are fast as hell. No joke.

      RAID0: 3 - 40g in a 120 gig array: ~40 mB/sec

      SPAN: 1 - 40g as a single span drive: 18-20 mB/sec

      Definitely fast enough....for anything.
