  • Off-topic: DV Capture with Ulead 6

I have depended on this forum for some good DV advice in the past, but my problem does not have to do with my Marvel.

I just got a D-Link firewire card. I have hooked up my Sony D8 camera and can capture with the Ulead DirectShow plug-in enabled.

However, all my vid capture options (video format, audio format, source, etc.) are all disabled (greyed out). When I capture it appears that I'm getting only 360x240 video files. I don't appear to have any way to adjust this up to the desired 720x480.

    Anyone have a similar problem?

    Thanks.

DirectX8 for Windows Media player to correctly report the Video size.

DV is a copy of the original on the camcorder, hence no adjust options until on the computer.

So you're saying that my DV off the Sony camera is 320x240? I don't follow...

What I am saying is Windows Media Player 6* is fibbing, install directX8 & you can play your DV video at the correct full size as captured. You will need to select Full size first.

I already had DirectX 8 installed, but as it turns out I had to do 2 things.

          1. ditch the D-Link card and replace it with a Pyro BasicDV. Now it works like a charm whereas the D-Link card hung my machine.

          2. Set the DV Encoder (under Properties in Media Player 6) to be 720x480 by default.

Now everything is happy, except that I wasted a lot of time.

          Thanks.
