Here's what I went through with 16ft ceilings and having to put my system on the long wall. I came up with some different DIY solutions that are within my "WAF" limits....LOL
For the walls I used wool rugs. These go well with Southwestern decor.
I did get permission to use acoustic foam behind the front speakers. This is Auralex Foam which comes in a variety of colors.
Aualex acoustic foam
Note the use of wood molding to get the wife's approval.
Now, because of the bad echoes in a room with tall ceilings I even had to hang a wool rug on the back wall between the rear speakers.
To enhance the sound absorbtion I even put polyester batting behind the rugs.
For the front wall, which needed more sound absorbtion I put "nufoam" which is a compressed polyester batting behind the rug.
Both types of polyester batting can be bought at most fabric shops.
