Bah, Outlook doesn't run on any real operating systems.
oh you meant linux/unix .. if you ask me, linux is more for servers, it doesnt really fulfill my needs, i mean i don't do much, i really just play games and mess around with stuff like that... linux is nice though..
wombat: windows 2000 is a real OS, i dont know why you would say it isn't.

many applications for linux are still in development stage rather than ready for end-users without too many bugs... that's why I think linux isn't mature enough for desktop use.
Win2K is a great OS for desktop use. I only recommend using linux for server use, at which it's very efficient.
Kind of silly and petty, isn't it? Too bad these are the kind of cheap swipes that Gurm can't help to take.

dZeus i agree that linux isnt mature enough for desktop usage, i mean it is possible for linux to take over the desktop market, but it wont happen, there are too many things that hold them back...
i find that the console is rock-hard stable, but i often get problems with buggy apps in x-windows.
many MS users like playing games, some popular newer games are now being ported, but what about if we wanna play the old games.
also, patents is a huge thing that holds linux back for desktop users, example sorenson quicktime files can't be decoded (legally) under a program other than quicktime (which isnt available for linux).
WINE is a way to overcome this, but wine is still under development, still might be a couple of years before it works fully.

Pishposh. I don't take cheap swipes - I take well-deserved swipes.
Linux is useless to the average user. Therefore, programs never get developed enough to be used by the average user. Therefore, Linux is useless to the average user. It's a self perpetuating viscous (yes, viscous, not vicious) circle.
Add to that the fact that the entire open-source methodology is the direct antithesis to supportable end-user software, and you have Linux taking over the server market and never EVER being a desktop OS.

The cheap insult was still unwarranted. I mentioned neither desktops nor Linux. I specifically said Unix, because I was talking about a nice, big, server. You just to tout your own inflated views whenever possible.
Now, as far as your last statements, why do you say that Open Source and support are contradictory? How does Redhat make money? And Cygwin before that? And the profits of many small consulting firms? I'd rather hire them than buy a MS OS, and still be charged ungodly sums per phone call when a problem arises, especially when it is a bug in their code.

Umm yeah, I wanna know too. What cheap swipe? Unless you're a huge Lotus Notes fan... which isn't possible, since Notes sucks more than a $5 whore on Navy Leave Night.

Although I wholeheartedly agree that Notes sucks dingo's kidneys, it does have VERY good security when properly configured.
Usability and stability on the other hand...
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox
edit: One client not mentioned here is <a href="http://www.webattack.com/get/calypso.shtml">Calypso</a>.
Fast, free, and looks a bit like OE. (<a href="http://www.webattack.com/php/appinfo.php?go=/screenshots/calypso.htm&id=489&r=s">screenshot</a>)
And if you want something *super light-weight*, try <a href="http://www.webattack.com/php/appinfo.php?go=/screenshots/popcorn.htm&id=2404&r=s">Popcorn</a>.
The whole client fits on a floppy -- only 200k!
