The Unix people laugh at Linux as a toy OS and wouldn't consider it for running any serious applications.
There's no laughing here. HP-UX offers a lot that Linux doesn't right now, but Linux is no toy. At least some of HP's Linux development happens here in my building, and it's serious work.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

      Linux a toy OS

I can only speak on what the eunuchs I know have said. I haven't had a whole lot of exposure to the platforms myself. I basically used Unix for some development tools and testing that I didn't break cross-platform code (heterogeneous products from a common code-base) while making changing for other platforms.

P.S. They felt the same way about SCO Unix. Those heterogeneous products sold for a fairly dear price but the Linux port was just given away.
