refresh rates of monitors

how is this relevant to LCD Monitors?
is it not the same as that of a CRT monitor?
Do LCD monitors need to "refresh"?

Nope, they don't. They're best at 60 Hz (their electronics works best with that freq). LCD "refresh" rate only really matters for the "frames per second" they can display.

Faster "refresh" rates for LCDs wouldn't make sense today anyhow, because they can't "switch" fast enough - that's why they "ghost"

yes you can, however if i set my lcd to any higher then 60hz it gets 'fuzzy'

I think 60hz is for DVI input and 75hz is RGB input

60hz should work fine for DVI or analog input. 75hz is probably for European users who want to view PAL movies. PAL is at 25fps, so you'd need to run a multiple of that to get smooth video. 50hz probably isn't supported so you have to go with 75hz. Likewise, 72hz is probably for film which is at 24fps.

The electronics in flat panels "understands" more than just 60 Hz, usually from 57 to 75 Hz. I think what Liquid snake posted might be part of the reason, another part would be that many graphics cards don't output EXACTLY 60 Hz when they say they do - they likely do 59 or 61 Hz, IIRC.

But nevertheless, the electronics works best at 60 Hz, and this is really the "refresh" rate at which flat panels should be driven, both analogue and digital ones.

Flat pannel screens will only run correctly at their native resolution and refresh rate.

There are advantages and disavantages. If you want more flexibility, then you must get a CRT based screen. Look carefully before ye buy.
