I think you misunderstood Nowhere, he actually likes the law because it gives consumers some benefits. He does not care what the retailer and the manufacturer negotiate between each other, thats their business not his.
almost what I've meant, thop (with the little correction: actually, I don't think I have very good law, but in this case (if you know how to fight for what is yours) it's ok...

...But, I will say this again (and what's pissing me off is that some of you are being as dense as humanly possible here) putting the requirement on retailers will just destroy small businesses, and give the manufacturers less incentive to make quality products. But most of you dense types don't shop at small businesses.. ...
KvHagedorn, where I wrote that I want to put the requiremement on ratailers? where?!
I've just said that I DON'T CARE. What happens between retailer and the distributor is not mine business. It's retailers businnes. And I don't know how that is in place where you live, but here the smal retailers also have ways to protect themselves from big ones...

But most of you dense types don't shop at small businesses..
Oh really?!; when it comes to computers for example (hey, it's forum dedicated to computers after all) I always bought them from small retailers

p.s. (about yours "and what's pissing me off is that some of you are being as dense as humanly possible here"). What is pissing me most of all is when somebody thinks he knows better than me what I'm doing/thinking

How many times did you sign a warranty contract when you bought...
    vcr - always
    tv - always
    computer - always
    videotape - what for?
broken Britney Spears CD - I don't buy shit
    toothbrush - same as tape
So honestly I'm not getting your point here...Could you clear things a little please?

The Plextor 48/24/48A is a piece of quality equipment well worth, in my opinion, the difference in price to the LiteOn.

      I'm certainly happy with mine.

my point is: there _ISN'T_ a contract per se. It's take it or leave it. The manufacturere doesn't give a rat's ass about your opinion on their contract. It's there for you to accept it. Period. If you want the part and it says you have to pay for shipping, you _will_ pay for shipping.

Besides, don't take it bad, I sincerely doubt you read the whole of the contract (eventually called your lawyer and made sure it was all legal) before you actually commited to it -everytime you buy sth that has warranty. Or you do it and that's very good (again no criticism) but you're about the only one.

          You're right, Kurt - it's take it or leave it;
but there is also one little thing (apart from that I usually read warranty): the warranty must be ok with law, and that applies even if I had already signed it (for example: if one point says that the warranty is 1 year, that point is invalid)

There's also that thig called a "lawyer" that will cost you as well as a legal procedure, that costs too. If you haven't gone through the process yet, it's usually cheaper to let go...it sucks but it's also a take it or leave it thing. The small retailer will usually care about being sued, but the makers will just bully you around unless you can get some publicity out of it (class actions, consumer defense group, whatever...).

No there isn't in this case...
Such things are in poland handled by consumer rights spokesman/oficially, not by the consumer. So in practice the state is suing the retailer/distributor, and you are acknowledged by spokesman about the course of trial (if it comes to trial that is, usually retailers/distributors know well enough that they're breaking the law, and when they see that some consumer knows that also (he didn't give up after their negative response for replacing faulty equipment for example, because he knows his rigths), they usually doing all right (and silently)).

so the ones responsible for the faulty products don't pay for it (manufacturer). the problem is that the retailer/distributor is _also_ a customer. you see where it's wrong?

                  Guys,

Look, we can argue the merits of the European Warranty Policy somewhere else... although not in the lounge unless you keep it REALLY civil. Let's get back on topic here though.

Yamaha - no longer producing CDR's. I say ... good riddance.

                  Que?
