If you still have a silly IDE disk around try this.........

Install the OS on the IDE disk, add INFs, drivers for all hw including the SATA controllers.

Now connect the SATA disks and while still booting off the IDE confirm the correct operation of the SATA disks, and then use GHOST to get the OS off the IDE disk onto the SATA disk.

Switch off - remove the IDE disk - set boot order to use SATA and there you should go.

Many a stubborn motherboard sorted this way and it takes only about 15 minutes extra with Ghost (2003.775)

You'd think Microsoft would allow you to specifiy the path for the drivers on something other than a floppy *roll*

Now I dislike most of MS products that I use, but I am pretty darn sure XP Install allows you to load additonal drivers from the CD during setup. I can;t remember, but I think while Setup is loading all the native drivers for SCSI and know controllers and stuff, you can press F6 or F8 or something and insert another CD......

Well, with a XP +SP1 CD, it does allow you to install other devices. But it automatically asks for it in the a: drive. Although I'm not sure if this is the case if the system has 2 CD/DVD/"Other than floppy" drives available. Most of my systems are 1 floppy and 1 CD/DVD/"Other than floppy" drives.

I just did a XP+SP1 install and it didn't let me install the SATA drivers from anything except the A: floppy. Course I didn't have any other hard drives attached, but I did have a 2nd cd drive that it totally ignored.

yeah...you'd think they'd changed that since NT...some parts of the MS brain are slower than others...
