there was a time when .. well it still hapens ocasionaly.. where freekwent on a daily basis... now its twice every month or so... however my computer has never suffered any sort of harsh curuption due to that phenomena.... but i have seen some that did...

.. about 2 meters into the ground should do. Surge protectors can't really work the way they are intended, without a ground.
