Asus Bios! upgrade in win2k?

If someone knows the secret please let us know. I am still using Win NT 4.0 and have the same problem. In NT there is no way to create a system disk. If you use a Win98 system disk to upgrade your bios, the new bios will not hand over control to the operating system after the bios upgrade. It just locks up at the point of handover. Flashing back to the old bios fixes the problem, but leaves your bios with the old version.
Looks to me that you have to use a Win98 (or lower) system disk to upgrade your bios and then reload the entire Win2K or Win NT program to have a clean hand off of to the operating system. Is there any way around this?

I had an ASUS P2B-LS and dual booted with Win98/NT4.0 off of multiple SCSI drives and can't recall ever having a no start with NT after a BIOS flash. Wierd.
With Win2000, I notice PowerQuest Drive Image 3.0 uses Caldera Dr. DOS 7.02 on the boot disk it creates. A drag having to upgrade to version 3.0 as Drive Image 2.0 does not work with Win2000, and you have to run it from diskette.MSI K7D Master L, Water Cooled, All SCSI

Godblissyou,
I don't have my W2K HD connected at the moment, but if you rightclick at A: in Windows Explorer, doesn't it give you option to format (with the option "Copy System Files") anymore ?
Although, with the changes they have made to the operation of the OS, I wouldn't be surpriced if they removed that option as well.

In my case, I started my NT install on a freshly partitioned Hard Drive. NT formats the disk as part of setup, so it was never setup with DOS or Win9x prior to loading NT. The only thing that appears in the boot screen is NT.
For some reason, when I flash the bios using a Win9x system disk, the flash goes fine, the bios loads fine, but when its ready to hand off to NT nothing happens. The computer just halts with no error message or anything. I tried two different versions of the bios and the same thing happens. When I flash back to the backup of the original bios, everything works just fine again. NT boots normally. Strange!?!?
One site I visited said that "a bios update cannot be done from NT. Bios updates can only be done from DOS or a Win9x system disk." But even that isn't working properly. Any more ideas?

Thanks Rags, I tried both of your suggestions but still no luck. Still no handoff to NT.
NT and Win2k use the same setup routines, so has anyone updated their bios using either OS? Surely, somebody has now that a lot of you are using Win2k.
I'm trying to upgrade an ancient DFI G586IPC motherboard that I'm using for my MCSE classes. Its a true piece of junk by today's standards, complete with a Cyrix P166+, but it runs NT Server and serves my purpose. When you need a test network, you take whatever you can get for free. I'm trying to update the bios so that it will recognize my CD-ROM. Fortunately, NT recognizes it, so the bios upgrade is really just another learning exercise.
I'm sure that Godblissyou and I are not the only ones with this question. Anyone updated their bios after a clean install of NT or Win2k?

I flashed the bios a few times with NT4 and win98 dual system at home and never had a problem. But then saying that I always note down the settings before flashing then set these back after rebooting.
It sounds like your newer bios has a setting that your NT doesn't like. Check out to see that anything has been enabled that wasn't before also check the irq's etc and the memory timings.
Have you tried the Bios defaults?

Detecting a slight sound of frustration heres how you create a bootdisk under win2k.
Insert your win2k cd into the Cd drive.
Go to Start > Run and type d:\bootdisk\makeboot a:
d is your Cdrom drive.
You'll four blank disks as this will create a backup diskette set. Or you could find a windows 98 computer and make a boot disk that way.
