  • Hot summer in my case

I bet that I have the warmest computer here! I have a mediumtower atx case with all three drivebays in use, dual exhaustfans, brutal processorfan and probably no air circulation!
Yesterday I noticed a stunning 50 degrees at the motherboard and the processor was at 44 degrees (all in celcius)!! And my computer isn't even overclocked (well the matroxcard is )
Anyone got a warmer machine than me?

Now explain to me how in the world your cpu can be cooler than the air around it without using an active cooler such as a peltier or vapor phase change?

First: I have quite a CPU-cooler (check the link in my first message)
Second: I don't know where asus have their heatsensor, probably inside the hottest chip on the motherboard...
I don't know the temp on the air inside the case but I've bought a digital termometer wich will be mounted at my case cover to monitor temperature inside/outside the case
Check my <A HREF="http://"http://loke.syh.fi/~te96ek07"" TARGET=_blank>homepage</A> for further details on my computer.

I'm sorry Lindberg, but that's not a very good HS and I've tested a mess of them on the market for the Athlon CPU's. Rags does have a point tho... so what is your ambient room and case temps? While also supplying us with your system and CPU temps. My Athlon 500@850 (will do 900 if actively cooled and I don't mean by a fan people
voltage is 1.9Vcccore and it's not that high, all while consuming way more power than yours.

Where are you getting the readings? From the bios or from software?

Either way, you may have a temperature compensation setting that´s messed up. Yes, it´s kinda of impossible the cpu being cooler than the air in the case.

That temp compensation is more frequent in cpu readings, as the Athlons cpu temp are probed by an external thermal diode, but MBM (motherboard monitor) has a temp compensation settings for both.

Just to compare, I too have a Athlon 700 .18u (not oc) on a gigabyte 7IX
                Room temp: about 26-27ºC (now)
                Case temp: 32ºC
CPU temp: 45ºC (that´s with 8ºC compensation, same thing as the bios readings)

I use my computers as an excuse to keep the A/C cranked down to 70 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Powersaving features are REQUIRED in a 12' x 15' room with 4 computers running. (Only two are up and running most of the time; the room can get mighty warm when we've got a Rogue Spear LAN party going on...mostly from the swearing, sweating sophonts, and let's not forget the computers...)

A side note to A/C users: if you can put a 5 Gallon Per Hour plant misting nozzle aimed at your condenser, you will be saving anywhere from 5%-15% on your energy bill, because you have almost doubled your condenser's efficiency. The drier the climate, the better this scheme works. I do this on the hottest days to good effect.

I checked the temp more yesterday and while doing that I had the case out of the cabinet.
                    Room temp: ~27 deg.
                    Case temp: 36 deg.
                    Processor temp : 37 deg.
                    Motherboard temp: 44 deg.

The powersupply is one of those models that have the fan on the outside of the ps( inside the case though), blowing air through the powersupply and sucking it out of the case. And the temperature readings on mb and processor are from bios (Asus probe shows the same).
One thing I can't understand is why the motherboard is so warm, The only fan I've got hooked to it is the processorfan and other things are two IDE-cables, soundcard and my matrox G400. They're not any powerconsumpting things
When I have my case in the cabinet the temp seem to rise 5-6 degrees (I got such a drop yesterday..) and I can accept that but I can't understand why the mobo has to be anything over 35 degrees...
And I wish I knew where asus has placed thier heat sensor, since I measured 36 degrees in the case, probably in the hottest chip on the mobo? (I guess there is where you'd wan't to know the temp..)
