CD-RW Life Span

Anyone know is there a life span for CD-RW ? Recently I use my HP external CD-RW to burn-clone some VCD Movie as usual. The media use is Samsung Gold CD-R and the software is Adaptec 4.0 , after completed burning and the sofeware promt. everything is good and OK. I took out the recorded disk and try out on my vcd player and it promt. error. This happen twice already with two CD-R disk of the same brand. After I tried and burned another same media disk , it turn out to be OK. Any idea why start to have inconsistency ?

Some brands of cdr are better than others. We hve the same problem at work. Some CdR's will only work on some CD players while others will work on them all.
