  • 1005C BIOS messed my ATA100 up, thankyou.

I've been pretty disappointed with my latest machine since I upgraded from the old K6-2 400, Kept downloading all the latest drivers hoping something would kick the PC into shape.. Wondering why it performs so much worse than ma Bro's K7-500.. and along came the ASUS A7V 1005C BIOS... When I tried to install it via the Winflash.. It failed the verification.. So I wondered if the machine would even come back on when I reset it.. I re-flashed it using the DOS based flasher.. it worked fine... Although when I rebooted ma hard drive became unreadable...Damn.. Unwilling to retro-flash it.. I changed the HD (A stealthy Maxtor 40+ 30GB) from from the Promise ATA to the Master UDMA100.. and then messed around for a while due to the thing performing a blue screen lock-up at boot up.. Got rid of the offending promise ATA win driver.. and all worked fine!!! A little too good in fact.. my little PC had been re-born.. !:> Now the unplayable Deus Ex.. which previously took 3 mins to load and another 3 to quick save, performs these tasks in a matter of seconds.. .. Maybe the tiny 1005C bios file.. does the best thing to the ASUS A7v by irradicating the Promise ATA100... Anyone know why my ATA was performing like a snail with a sore foot..!! also why the 1005C bios decides to assassinate the ATA100?

I only have worked with one A7V and it had a Maxtor ATA 100 attached to the Promise . It seemed very fast to me and I tested it with hdtach and its burst speed was 70 MB/s. It was running the 1004 bios though. I never tried DeusEx though (although it was installed) The Maxtor was a 40 GB model.
