The Maxtors were slower-performing and significantly hotter than the others. If you want thermal efficiency and good performance, go for the Hitachi.

As for the XP90, I have the recommended Panasonic 92mm (quiet version). It's very quiet, and my CPU temp (overclocked, too) is 38 idle, and 43/44 under load. My case temp is in the mid-thirties. But yes, I have seen 120mm ducts. I don't think you'll need it though.

I just set up my htpc in it's final resting place last night. It's a lowly AXP 1700+/Radeon 9800 Pro (check systemspecs link in my sig for full details), and it does the job just fine. What you've got there should be more than enough.

Yep then there might be a cheaper card than the Audigy 4 Pro.

There are cards like this. http://www.sapphiretech.com/vga/x800-xlult.asp that are pretty silent.

When I get my HTPC i'm looking for a socket 939 board with no northbridge fan. To keep the noise down.

This is what I'm considering, not buying until September though, hopefully they'll have a SiS756 based mobo available by then

There's other boards I would have picked besides Abit (like Gigabyte or DFI), but I guess it will work.

I don't like the 300GB Maxtors. We tried them out at work for a possible product, and they're not all that great. Go with the Hitachis or even Seagates.

Connect3D? Can you get a Sapphire or something?

And I strongly advise against the xp120. It's extremely hard to fit, and from the stuff I read on a number of places, doesn't work as well as its little brother. Go for the cheaper, better performing, and easier to install XP90. I have one and think it's great, and was really easy to install.
