I know I'm running an old MB with a P2-300 on it, but I still couldn't resist pre-ordering the G400MAX. I'll upgrade in the near future, but I want to know if anyone has tried running the MAX on an old LX6 MB. I recall somewhere on VoodooExtreme that the old LX chipsets have problems using the newer video cards like TNT2 or V3. Anyone know about this? Or am I needing to upgrade sooner than I thought?

I've read that older motherboards can't supply sufficient power to the AGP slot for newer cards. This is probably even more of a factor on OEM type mobos. I've even seen pics of burned pins and circuit traces. Can't remember where though. Hate to be a bummer. Hope this helps.

It's confirmed with Abit, also they confirmed that the mb has been discontinued, and it does fail with the G400, i suggest you use BH6 instead,

R0M, I really appreciate the quick reply! Support like this is what makes Matrox the best in the industry.
Really quite happy with my ole LX6/P2-266 and Matrox G200 at home.. only running Photoshop/IE5 and very occasional Quake3 on NT.
Maybe this holiday season I'll upgrade..

The BE6 supports UDMA66 and 768MB RAM vs. 384MB for the BH6. There are quite some people having disk problems with the BE6 though. The BH6 is dirt cheap and a hassle free mainboard.
