  • A couple of questions...

It's been a while since I have surfed the Matroxusers forums (been busy), so I am more than likely repeating questions asked a dozen times before.

    1) Is the Cinemaster DVD player that comes with the G400 capable of doing AC-3 pass-through via a sound card (more specific a SB Live!)? Where do I get updates for the DVD player?

    2) Are there any know shut down issues with the G400 and Win98SE? My computer will not shut down properly with my G400.

    3) For EverQuest (aka EverSmack, NeverSleep) players. I cannot get the gamma correction to work properly in EQ. Is this a know issue with the G400 or is it a software problem elsewhere? I am using DX7 and have heard there are some troubles with that and EQ...

    4) ...uh...acctually, that's it. Everything else is working great.

    Any help would be appriciated.

To my knowledge, G400 doesn't not cause the problem of shutting down, you might try microsoft's website, they have patches for that, you are not alone.

Did you ever fresh install a 98SE or did this happen on a system where you swap out a card?

Question: are you bluescreening on shutdown, and occasionally getting an odd hang with an active mouse and some video errors?

I've been getting that as well, ever since I swapped in the card. I'm using Windows 98 first edition.

Okay, don't worry about the shut down and EQ thing. I am going to do a fresh install of Win98SE tonight. That should fix it.

All I need to know now is where to get updates for the MatroDVD (Cinemaster) player. Any clues?

Get the win98 shutdown patch from windows update,it's a known issue, hence the patch.
A fresh install of win98se,is no guarantee to cure the problem, the patch, however is!

I did a complete reinstall last night (I hadn't done one in a couple months so it was about time). I ONLY installed the newest version of the Matrox drivers (5.30) and installed the Sutdown patch. Well, it still doesn't shut down right. Oh well.

Anyone know where I can get the update for the MatroxDVD player (aka Cinemaster?)

You might want to try this...
              http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q238/0/96.asp

It's Microsoft's Win98SE shutdown troubleshooting guide. If that doesn't help you, I believe you can get the shutdown supplement here...
              http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/d...SE/Default.asp

              Gotta love these long URLs.

As for a newer version of Cinemaster... you can try...
              http://www.dvdutils.com/

The consensus on this board seems to be that the Matrox DVDPlayer and the version of Cinemaster that it uses is pretty much top of the line with the G400. There might be a couple other players that people like, but I think most people prefer the Matrox DVDPlayer.

For special features, which the Matrox version doesn't always handle, there's a fix by copying over a .dll from a newer cinemaster over the Matrox one. I don't recall which one it is, but I'm sure you could find several references to it in the old messages.

                Jammrock,

Get hold of DVD Genie from http://www.inmatrix.com/ and following the instructions at this site (specifically http://www.inmatrix.com/sbspdif.html) you can output AC3 from the SBLive! card with the Matrox DVD player, it works for me!! :-)

                Cheers,

                George.
