  • Running overclocked all the time???

I have made my own card cooler using two 3 inch fans from my old comps power supplies

I wish i had a digital camera, this is a work of art i tell ya. My card certainly has enough cooling.

I was just wondering if it is good idea to run my comp with my G400 overclocked to G400 Max specs all the time with the card overclocked? or should i just overclock it when i am gonna play games?

I run mine at 150/200 all the time and all I have is a 486 fan slapped on the heatsink

I would run it un o'ced if your not in games. it will extend the life of your card. you dont need the extra mHz for windows. : ) Unless of course your at a lan party, then crank it up as far as posiable! : ) : )

I use Matrox Tweak, and run at 120.1% OC'ed now for a while before I start going up.
Wouldn't the clock-crystals need some time to adjust to the new speed??

Yes, got a pentium cooler attached to the heatsink (bent some fins for it, thanks for the idea, Kruzin!!! so I could screw it on) of my G400 32 DH OEM vanilla.

I dont keep my videocards long enuff. Also, I have sufficient cooling that any negetive impact will be minimal if any. Since we dont control voltage to the G400 chip, any overclocking that has good cooling will not cut down on the life expectency, which is generally 5-10yrs on ASIC's

aww. come on.. surely you can go higher than that!!

I have it with the Matrox Utility at 120% all the time. And, with the MGA utility, I have it at 182.4/205.20/182.40, I can go higher.. I actually got the PLL upto 434 one time with those dividers and it freaked out when I went to 436. I think Ill stay at 410 though.

The PLL at 410.40, and the dividers at 2.25/2.0/2.25. Turned off Auto Duy Cycle Correction, have the SGRAM optimization to 3,1,3,8,3,1,Fast,1,1,1,0.0,0.0

G400DH 32MB vanilla WITH thw 5ns mem chips.

                    I have been running my g400max with a pll of 432, and a 2.5/2/2.5 divider. 173 clock, 216 memory.

At 160/200 I get about a 4.5% increase in fillrate (over max default of 150/200).

At 173/216 I get about a 12.5% increase in fillrate. Still runs fine at 2x agp, even on an overclocked agp bus of 83mhz.

Board locks solid at a pll of 450. Maybe if I swap out the max's default fan for a better one???
