  • Overclocking G400 AND AGP bus

Does any one have any experiences (bad or good) with overclocking the G400 with the tweak utility AND overclocking the AGP bus? I only ask because I'm about to do this and I was just wondering if I might be doing something hazardous to the G400. Thanks all.

Yes , my AGP bus works normal at 83 mhz (but only in AGP 1x)
and my G400 DH is overclocked to 140/180/140

As long as you keep things sane, you will be OK. Don't go for the big one all at once. Slowly work your way up to the max stable overclock frequency. Also, if you work your way up in small increments, your first sign that you are giving it too much will be visual artifacts in gaming, not a crash.

As always, your results with overclocking will vary. Just because somebody on the internet posted some obscenely high value does not mean that you will get up there.

I got my G400 up to a 124MHz fsb (whatever 2/3 * that was my agp speed) in an abit bx6r2. Then I got the Matrox tweak with a 20% overclock of the graphics chip.

Where did you download your Matox tweak?

I got mine from the MURC utilities at http://www.murc.ws/Utils.html

I grabbed the "Matrox Tweak Utility", although I don't have the latest one. I got v1.12 a while back and I haven't bothered upgrading it.

Okay, thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going too far into the uncharted waters. I ordered the tennmax lasagna cooler for the g400 yesterday just as some insurance before i start knocking the chip up the MHz scale.

FYI, MGATweak is at ver. 1.20 and Matrox Tweak is ver. 1.12.

If your new to OCing then use Matrox tweak and if you want more control then use MGATweak (advanced users only)

I've received and tweaked my new system. The fastest I could go was 138mhz bus--the AGP is the weak link. I think it's running at 92, if memory serves. This allows my PIII 500e to run at 692, just short of the magic 700. Oh, well.

I didn't have much luck tweaking my G400. ALthough the RAM has stickers on it with a number ending in -5, I could only get the memory up to 184 before I started getting white streaks sometimes. Since I haven't changed my ratios, this works out to 138 for the Gclock. I clipped a Pentium fan onto the standard h/s.

The board is a Soyo +IV. The RAM is 128mb cheap Kingmax PC133 from mwave, set at 3-2-2 over 585, 3-3-3 over 667

                    Some benchmarks:
                    3dmark2000: 3018 (CPU speed 205)
                    3d winmark 2000: 37.5
                    Winstone 99 1.2: 29.6 (5.2GB on disk, minor fragmentation)
                    Content Creation Winstone 2000: 29.2
                    Dhrystone: 1855 MIPS
                    Whetstone (FPU): 922 mflops
                    CPU Mark 99: 65.0
                    FPU Mark: 3720
Business Disk Winmark 99: 6550 (20.5GB IBM; at 667mhz when HDD less full)

What sort of memory cooling do you use, my mem can't get above 180, and I'd really like it to go higher
