I read the DVD FAQ, and now even more I don't understand why Matrox will not add PAL60 - seems this is a option "every" player has.

Also the part that conversion requires expensive hardware - well maybe for standalone players, but on computers it's done with software!

      To Haig:

      > we do not support PAL-NTSC and vice versa

I'm not asking you to implement a full-blown NTSC to PAL converter, that would be quite an additional amount of coding.

All I'm asking for is PAL60. Is the hardware of the G400 DH capable of doing this? Because if it is then it's just a matter of adding a PAL60 option in the dualhead settings panel and changing a few flags in the code, right? That sounds realistic to me. I think this is the only problem that keeps the DVD-MAX from beating a hardware DVD player on all points.

Hmmm, another thought just occured to me:
      NTSC50? (just joking!)

I read on dvdutils.com about "XingDVD Player 2.03 PAL fix"...

could this be helpful for PAL60 ?!?
I dont have xing myself so i cant test it!

BTW i´ve read about power dvd 2.5
and it said that it was playable on PAL and NTSC systems... can this also be a solution..?!

I want to fix this problem because its very annoying!

My only advice to you is if your serious about your DVD video and audio get a Hardware decoder or better still a domestic DVD player..
I author a lot of DVD titles and I am forever being told by people about staggering in their PC software player be it Xing, cinemaster or any other "free with this hardware comes" player.
I am not saying these players don't work but.... As you have seen from the advice above Bills box of tricks just has to many variables..
Its all a bit hit and miss.
I was surprised though to see a company that produces one of the worlds best none-linear editing systems not developing their own consumer DVD (hardware or software) player....
However the G400 is a seriously good peace of kit. Keep it up guys..

              Patrik,

Regarding the XingDVD ripped from the readme "This update corrects problems playing PAL movies (green pixels or other rubbish at the bottom of the movie)."

So... not quite the fix we are looking for..

I've tried PowerDVD, and it runs crappy on my comp, not only on tv-out but the monitor as well (it's not my system - I have a P3-500)

WinDVD is my favorite player, but unfortunatly cinemaster has the best fix for the NTSC->PAL problem - so I'm stuck with it for NTSC DVD.

Keep the thread alive... maybe someone will hear us !?!?!?!?!?

This wouldn't just be another form of region enforcement would it?

NB I seem to notice much smoother playback with 5.30 drivers when doing NTSC>PAL.

I also have had problems with stuttering DVD playback with my G400Max. I found out that it was overclocking my P3-500 to 560Mhz.

Try putting your cpu to the default speed and see if that helps. A good solution then is to use SoftFSB to change your front side bus without even having to reboot. Works like a charm.

Found a fix at last - a little messy though.

I installed dvdgenie and loaded the defaults for g400 and presto no more stutter.

However when I restarted matrox dvd player it locked with cinemaster error. I had to uninstall and then reload the player! So in the mean time I now merge the reg settings that I exported from a clean install of the player (pre genie settings update) before I run the player. Once the movie has started I close the player (so it will restart where I closed it) - run dvdgenie - then run dvd player again. I have to hit pause then play to remove some initial glitch but then all is good from there.....

                        hi,
Can you tell us which dvd genie your using matty?
                        i have 3.20
and also does it eliminate it... or does it just decrease it? with 3.2 pulldown unchecked it is awfully obvious on my 32inch widescreen phillips.
but with it checked its just the frame dropped and you watch it knowing something is wrong, but unable to pinpoint it.. (as my friend put it)

also does the Reigion 2 matrix have the 2 headbut scenes that where cut out of the UK cinema release? (when neo is training with morpheous and when he's fighting agent smith in the subway)

just minor points, but i think im gonna have to buy my NTSC dvds all over again cos its got to the point now where watching half a movie starts to give me headache..

                        :O)

                          just a thought....

I was reading over on www.dvdutils.com how after much petitioning and requesting the Makers of Hollywood plus put the code needed into there drivers for pal60...

                          as i was saying..

                          just a thought..

maybe if we got an official petition..
How about starting a thread, where every post counts as a vote?? that way matrox can see how important this is in a glance and we can all watch the suporting numbers go up?

                          whatdya all think?

                            I'm using DVD Genie 3.20

The only time playback shows any minor inconsistency is on large pans i.e. in the opening scene of the Matrix panning down the building sign. Other than that it is very hard to pick up on anything else.

I hope that someone can use this info to come up with a less involved solution (and maybe even no 'glitches')

Well I still think it's a damn obvious stutter about every 2 seconds. And yes I use the 5.30 drivers with the latest DVD Genie and have tweaked every setting to the max - it still stutters!

Ofcourse, not everyone is able to tell by looking at a monitor at what refresh rate it is exactly... all the way up to 100Hz . I'm pretty sensitive for that kind of thing.

If the hardware is capable of PAL60 I think they should enable it, frame-rate conversion is a bit much to ask. So you can count this one as a vote for PAL60.

I also have this *very* annoying stutter. Surely this must be a driver issue, can't we get a solid comment on this. Btw is ths just an effect of the Matrox player, does the other players show this kind of stutter crap?
