I was unable to run my copy of SoftDVD that came with the G200 DVD addon until I attempted to install the PowerDVD timelimited demo. PowerDVD asked if I wanted to replace the SoftMpeg driver with the PowerMpeg driver so I indicated yes. Ever since doing this both PowerDVD and SoftDVD are working and the SoftDVD will run without any time limits (as it should). The SoftDVD even uses the hardware addon card since it is much clearer and is more able to multitask than PowerDVD. My only current problems are 1)frequent BSOD when running Communicator and SoftDVD at the same time, 2)problems with using my Panasonic 24X CDRom now that I also have a Panasonic DVD in the system and 3) getting an Mpeg player that can read the DVDs under OS/2 (drive works fine as a CDRom drive).

    Hope this helps,

    PbO

If you need specs then here they are:

Celeron 300a@300 (can do 450 stable but don't bother anymore :-P ),128MB Ram, BH6, G200, WD 4.3 GB HD, MKE 6X DVD, MKE 24X CDRom, IDE SparQ drive, RealTek PCI NIC, Acer modem, Acer AW37 soundcard.

Would I be using the 'assume' parameter if I was to say the Zoran SoftDVD patch is due soon? (The end of this week?)

Will this patch allow usage of Zoran SoftDVD with the PD5.15 and VT1.50 drivers?

I have my Zoran Software and Matrox DVD Hardware Add-on working for the time being.

While waiting for Haig to return from vacation I did an uninstall of the Zoran software and then did a reinstall.

What I did differently this time was to choose to change the region and reselected Region 1. It did it's BIOS PINs change and removed one of my chances to change the Region in the future. While this worked for me, I'd recommend waiting for Haig's fix. You only have three changes for the region that are flashed to your G200 card. Since I have no interest in other Regions than 1, I took the risk (after all I could roll back to 4.33m and have it recognize the Region properly, I just would like to use the new Video Tools BETA 1.5 and OpengGL.)

For some reason the system now shows the correct Region 1 and works with my DVD's. So I am happy now, but does that mean for future driver updates I'll have to do this again? I suppect that the registry is updated as well as the PIN portion of the G200 Bios being changed to show the correct region. How else would the system that showed Region 1 during the install show Region 2 in the program, and then the correct region after reselecting during install?

Haig was working with me on this problem before his vacation, so those of you that are waiting for a reply, please be aware that he is actively working on this problem and looking for a solution. Currently he's away, but I am sure something will be available soon upon his return.

I want to go on record as saying that Haig and Matrox Technical support are doing a great job. I have owned other products over the years and I think Matrox have provided the best support -bar none- this year.

Matrox is still working on the problem. While Haig is away Oliver Frost is helping me out. Thanks Oliver!

                    Thanks,

Perhaps if some help is forthcoming, 'Willie' or Matrox may be kind enough to pass on the information to the general concensus.
Does this 'issue' fall under Zoran or Matrox responsibility, or both?

This region 'problem', and the ongoing back borders on TVOUT, and DVD non-compatability with the new drivers brings to mind some concerns that I cannot ignore, regarding future direction of Matrox's product focus.
Are us G200 users with all addons going to be forgotten during the mad rush for G400's.
Will we miss out on the new driver 'features' just because we have something like the DVD addon?

He's on holiday, rumor is he has slipped into the US by reports from customs and border patrol officials.
