I thought I'd come back and let everyone know what steps I used to have my DVD-Addon work with PowerDesk 5.25 and Video Tools 1.51e (I have a Rainbow Runner G-Series.)
Here's what I have in case it helps Matrox track down a future patch solution.
ASUS P5A (Bios REV 1007A)
AMD K6-2 3Dnow! 350MHz
64MB PC-100 SDRAM
Windows 98 Second Edition
Matrox Millennium G200 AGP
Rainbow Runner G-series
Matrox TV-Out module
Matrox Hardware DVD-Addon
Video Software:
PD 5.25
Video Tools 1.51e
DirectX 7.0 (from Windows Updates)
Zoran SoftDVD 2.523_5.02 (bundled with Hardware addon.)
When ever I need to reformat and reinstall my system (not frequently, but I have had to a couple of times over the last year or so) I install the PD 5.25 and Video Tools 1.51e. Next I install the Zoran Software and keep the current Region (Region 1.) Zoran installs and then fails to work since it says Region 2 in the program.
I rerun the install and reset the Region to 1 (decrementing the number of times I can change this, WARNING you have three times "See my fix below".) Then the program would detect the DVD Region correctly and work properly.
Once, I ran out of changes and the software wouldn't install, provided an error message to the fact that it couldn't detect a valid Region. Fortunately I had created an Emergency BIOS disk for my card and I used this to repair the G200 (resetting the Region changes back to three in the process.) Note: This only worked because I created the Emergency disk before adding the DVD-Addon. If you create a disk after you have run out of changes, it's too late.
Haig, I suspect this is the reason the newer software PD 5.25 is not listed as compatible. For some reason it won't recognize the Region properly, but does after resetting it in 5.25. Of course the user keeps loosing a region change if they need to reinstall their computer. If software development could find the cause, couldn't they patch the future PD 5.X releases to work with the DVD-Addon?
Couldn't MGI Software provide a possible solution without providing you the complete source code for their product.
I look forward to a solution since the newer PD software looks great!
Thanks,
