  • no IRQ in Win NT with G200 and 4.77

upgraded driver from 4.54 (which had the mgabg hogging the cpu) to 4.77 and checking with winmsd to find out that it doesn't have IRQ in NT.
Although it had IRQ 11 before, and on the same machine it has IRQ 11 in Win98SE (no ACPI) and IRQ 10 in Win2k (ACPI).
I have "assign IRQ to VGA" enabled in the bios and the bios post report IRQ 11 for the G200.
    here's the winmsd report :

thanks for pointing me to the other thread chuck, it looks like there's no solution for this problem and have to wait for a new driver

Yep, I guess we people using an ancient OS get to wait for Matrox to fix the bug in their drivers.

Its funny though: With all the preaching that they do about "The G400 MUST have its own IRQ to function properly", you'd think that they would notice that their latest driver doesn't grab one.

        Oh well....

          chucky2,

i8042prt is used by PS/2 mice and I believe keyboard as well.

I don't know anything about the IRQ problem with the G400 though..

i've done some further testings .. OpenGL screen savers work fine (dunno if they r HW accelerated though), GlQuake crash.. don't remember the msg though.
tirtanium 1.2 OGl works fine at most display modes, but it's way slower than win98, and a little slower than win2k.
            i got 7 FPS in 1024x768x32 !!
but i'm not able to disable vsync in Win NT, anyone knows how ? i've tried mtstu414 but vsync is still on.
and as mentioned the i8042prt is for mouse and keyboard.
irq 1 for keybd and irq 12 for ps/2 mouse.

Well, I don't have any games here to test out.

The screen savers all work fine for me. Although, like its always been, the OpenGL Pipes screensaver lags when multiple flex pipes are drawn on the screen.

Are there any reliable graphic benchmark programs for NT? I have no games here to test with.

Maggi- Thanks for the links to those benchmarks. I'll download a couple of them tonight and see how/if they run on my machine. Results should be slow since I'm only running a K6-3+ at 500MHz.

                    Questions:

For the Vulpine GLmark, do I just download the demo here: http://www.vulpine.de/en/demo3.shtml and run it?

                    Thanks!

Maggi .. thanx for the links but WOW !!
38 MB for the indy3D and 57 MB for GLmark .. that's alot for a 33.6 dialup connection and a fuX0red ISP . maybee someday when both me and my isp r in good mood i'll give the other 2 huge demos a try
so for the time being i'll get the excess GL and GL stars demos and reply back.
i'm not sure if you use NT or not but i'll give it a shot anyway : do u know how to disable vsync for OGL in NT ?
                      i tried the following key .. but still tirtanium reports vsync as on ;
                      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\mga64\Device0] "User3d.SwapVsyncEnable"=dword:00000000 .
it was set to 1 so i changed it to 0 but still vsync is on and tirtanium has the same performance.
BTW i checked the win98se registry entry and found out that FlipOnVBlank was set to "1" which i think means that vsync is enabled for D3D, and tirtanium tells the same, while for OpenGL it says that vsync is off.
i thought that OpenGL relied on D3D vsync settings ? or is it hardwired to off by default in the OpenGL driver ?
if it is then how does mtstu changes vsync settings for OGL ?
p.s. excuse my bad english :+|

                        WOW !!!
Maggi; where do u find such things ?? man this is really wonderfull !
The GL XS demo is a must see for everyone !!
it's simply amazing .. and i only ran the no sound version, i'll d/l the sound version later.
Man it reminds me that assembly demo, named second reality i belive, he even borrowed some ides from there like the rotating man face scene and the colored fog scene.
i'll check the others demo u posted too coz i think u know the best GL demos out there
it ran very well with NT 4 and driver ver. 4.77 although slow even at 640x480x32.
It sucked bad on win98se with driver 6.04, not talkin about speed but about bad grafics.
in win2k with 5.34 drivers it ran well although it had some vertical flickering lines drawing a triangle on the screen. i think i need to adjust something with the mtstu Open GL settings, i'll try it later.
I checked out the icd files and the NT one is the most recent and has the latest version, g200icd.dll.
the stars demo also looks cool and it's not that demanding as it ran really well on all OS's, but it should be run at 32 bit; a big difference.
but i still have to find a way to disable vsync in NT. this is a must as it's really slow in Open GL.
I tried glquake again and it kicked me to the desktop with and error msg saying "wglCreateContect fail".
anyway .. thanks for the demos maggs

dunno, but somehow I find those things.
some are announced here (not only by me) and some are mentioned on various news sites, I guess I'm just a nerd that I use all those for testing my rig and some non-public drivers ...

For Tirtanium you should make sure that you use the GL-standalone version under NT.
Do not use the D3D-OGL combo !

For toggling VSync in OpenGL, you should definately use the TweakUtil from Matrox, since it can differ between D3D and OGL in respect of vertical synchronisation.

                            LOL
it's my nick on IRC when i 1st joined 4 yrs ago and didn't know which nick to use, i guess i was hungry and was thinkin about arby's sandwiches , didn't wanna make any effort to pick a nick really
about tirtanium; that's exactly what i use, the standalone OGL under NT; it doesn't change the resolution though; i.e. when ur desktop is set at 1024x758 and u choose a res of 8x6, it runs in a window.
And i've fiddeled with mtstu and used block transfers under win2k which cured all the GL XS artifacts.(on a side note; does block transfer disable or enable vsycn ?) i think matrox should put a description for these settings in the help file(they have a description in the help file .. lazy me !!). For win NT i wasn't really sure about the setting, do u just set it to "page flipping" "always off" ? to make it disable vsync ? coz i tried both "optimize for speed" or "application decides" "OFF by default" and it was still ON.
btw. i d/l'd the sound version of GL XS and it really ROCKS on the MATT-ROCKS
the explosion part is so real, i guess we should expect GL movies in a couple years!!
