  • G550 and Athlon64 mobos

I'm looking for suggestions on which s754 or s939 mobos work with the G550.

I'm upgrading to an AMD system from a P3. My G550 currently works with my P3 but I've read that it doesn't work with some s754 and s939 mobos - especially MSI and ASUS.

Any suggestions based on user experience?

AFAIK, G550 is AGP4x and should therefore work in all AGP8x mobos.

I'd also ask in Matrox tech support forums, if I were you.

      G550 and Athlon64 mobos

Unfortunately the G550 does not work with all s754 and s939 mobos. For example, there are reported issues with the MSI K8T and K8N series and the ASUS A8N and A8V series mobos. (Check the Matox tech support forums.)

However, I'm not sure about other mobo brands and would like to get some feedback from users.

G550 does NOT work with the MSI K8Neo2 boards that have BIOS revisions >1.1 (thats about all of them). Latest 1.5 BIOS is supposed to fix the issue, but some reports say it hasnt.

My G550 works with my Asus K8V/Winchester 3200@2.4ghz, and although I do get the occassional lockup thats probably more down to overclocking than graphics card/mobo incompatibilities.
        Athlon XP-64/3200, 1gb PC3200, 512mb Radeon X1950Pro AGP, Dell 2005fwp, Logitech G5, IBM model M.

Are you using the latest bios with your ASUS K8V? And the G550 drivers installed OK? Which G550 drivers are you using?

          Sorry for so many questions.

According to CPU-Z I'm running a Rev 1.xx board with BIOS version 1007.002 dated 09/15/2004.
I can't tell you any more than that without rebooting.

The G550 drivers were the latest Win2k ones from the Matrox site, vers 5.39.009
            G550 BIOS is 1.4.b14

            Hope that helps

Thanks matey. This has helped greatly. I've decided that my new system will be an ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe with an Athlon64 3400+ (no overclocking).

This will be for my dedicated DAW.

My 3200 runs at 240fsb/2.4ghz on stock Voltage, Cooling and Crucial PC3200 memory.
Overclocking doesnt seem to be a worry for these CPUs
