I know a gamma utility exists but I cannot find it anywhere for my G400, can someone kindly point me to the file so I can see where I'm going in the game

I HATE IDgamma.
It screws with the game too much, and is a real pain to get working with all the different mods.
Most of what IDgamma does can be done in the game config.
Add/tweak these lines in your autoexec.cfg:
set intensity "1.0"
set vid_gamma "0.9"
set gl_modulate "3.5"
set gl_saturate "0"
