  • beta drivers fix?

Ok, so the new beta drivers are out. They're for directx7 and fix some benchmark programs. Is that it? 5.41 broke Looking Glass games on the dark engine (Thief, System Shock2, Thief2 beta) and I had to go back a version to 5.31. Has anyone tried the beta drivers to see if this is fixed?

Matrox doesn't do a very good job of telling anyone what driver issues they're working on and what driver issues they've fixed when they release new ones. If you go to the 'known' issues page, there's usually very little there. It's been known for a while that the radiant map editor for Quake-like games has crashed using the G400 opengl, it's never made the 'problems' page. I started reporting it in Kingpin and many have started reporting it in Q3A.
Don't leave us in the dark Matrox.

second try on this post: I installed the new beta drivers and noticed two things. UT at 1280x1024 16 bit all high quality seemed quicker but more jerky, if that makes any sense. Homeworld on the other hand has become very slow and jerky(running at 1024x768 same as with 5.30 drivers). I have not had time yet to reinstall system shock 2 to see if that problem has been addressed.

      K6-2 450, 128 megs sdram, g400 32meg SH agp non-max but with 5ns sgram, win98 (not se) Directx7.0

Unfortunately, System Shock 2 has the same problem as it did with the 5.41 drivers. I thought this was being fixed for the next release? I've just gone back to 5.30...

I get worse than the 5.41 drivers. They would enter the game and just everything was screwed up. With the 5.50 beta drivers I get this for SS2:

Ok, I got those beta drivers to install. I did something really stupid.

Well, they do nothing noticable. I still have the problem with every OpenGL game crashing after one level, and I can't play my recently-bought copy of System Shock 2.

But what's odd is that I don't get any sort of dialogue box or error message. After it's done loading the first level in a new game, everything goes black with background noise still happenning. Then I press any key and it quits back to desktop.

Done! BIOS is now flashed to "1.5 - 22", the latest I could find on the website. Thanks for pointing that out

But unfortunately, that did absolutely nothing. I'm getting very sick of this.

jtracy do you use the pdunistall util from Matrox? I had no probs udating my drivers when I use that util and after reboot set my G400 to vga standard reboot again...and install the new drivers.

                      Hi Jtracy,

then you really should stick with PD5.30 until a fully supported PD5.5x is released.
