Someone over there has to "discover" Freespace 2. For multiplayer there's a lot to it. Sure, it's not a "shooter", but you'd figure that SOMEONE out there must be getting bored with tag team capture the flag matches by now. From what I've seen, the only thing that's changed in the realm of the shooters in the past 6 years is the game engine. Freespace 2 offers a great change of pace, and the multi-player ability is fairly good. Team vs. Team is limited to 4 against 4 right now, but that is largely due to the lack of game servers that can host more than that.

Kruzin, Is Matrox running Q3A and UT simultaneously? I try to test my Q3 com tweaking on that server (among others) and have wondered if any other applications were running at the same time.

Xortam, both games are running simultaneously, although I'm not sure they are both on the same machine (I've never compared the IPs). If they are both on the same hardware, the severe lag we sometimes see in matches (of either) is probably caused because of that, and running them on separate machines would help.

It could also be that they backup their databases at night or something. Remember, it is a working server & we are just guests.
It is odd that my ping flips back & forth between ~100 & ~1000. Who knows?

That's not fair! (Who said life was fair?)
My dsl connection is very unstable going to the Matrox game server. Maybe I have a setup problem in UT. I ping a lot of QuakeWorld (the only other game I play) Servers in the 30s & 40s.
Iv'e done a trace and my packets seem to get to Chicago and get stuck in a traffic circle before going on into Canada.
Any advice from the network savvy would be appreciated.

O.K. Ace, Let me restate that ... Is Matrox running Q3A and UT simultaneously on the same PC? Now I suppose I should ask whether or not its an MP machine also. How about the LAN topology? Internet connectivity? Obviously, the point of the question is to determine if that server is a good one to "Q3A com tweak" against. I don't know if its a "working server" or a spare box that Matrox is currently using as a dedicated game server. Do you know for sure? Judging by the responses, now I see that I'm not the only one seeing various ping ranges.

P.S. If the IP addresses for MURC UT and Q3A servers were different, that still doesn't guarantee that they're on different PCs.

                              Hi Kruzin,
A dedicated game server? I thought they were just part timing a server they already had.
That is above & beyond! If you're listening, Thanks Haig.
