  • Why need glsetup?

Why do I need glsetup if I already have Matrox's drivers? I am confused in what it is for. Am I supposed to use glsetup with Matrox drivers? I noticed some filenames are the same from both companies. If Matrox releases a new driver, do I need to overwrite glsetup's drivers with it? How about when glsetup releases newer files over Matrox's? I am so confused!

I look forward to hearing for replies.

Stay away from GLSetup. All it is is just a package of "recent" video drivers for various cards, all packed together.
If you keep up on the latest Matrox drivers, you are already ahead of GLSetup...

        Which companies are saying this?
The game makers, or the card makers?
My guess is this it's the game makers saying this, and it is just because it is easier that trying to get their customers to use the latest drivers from their cards maker (you'd be surprised how many people don't even know what kind of card they have, or how/where to get the latest drivers for their card...)

I dont know but for some reason when i had homeworld installed on my computer and tried to select OGL for the API it always sent me back to the non OGL option...that is, until i ran GLSetup and it seemed to then allow me to choose OGL with no problems...is it possible that the ppl that made Homeworld set up some type of code that would prevent you from using OGL unless you used GLsetup?
Just curious...i dont have the game installed anymore but it seemed odd that i couldnt use OpenGL without running GLsetup in Homeworld...

Frankfurt: Interesting. Maybe glsetup overwrote a corrupted file. I don't know. I would like to know too. I just uninstalled my glsetup (left the Matrox files there though).

Homeworld runs for me in OGL, and I have never run GLSetup.
That game does much better in D3D though...
