  • random reboots and mad sound loops

I'm sure this has probably been dealt with before, but a search hasn't thrown any lights upon my problem.

The problem is this, Any game based on the Quake III experiences random reboots and or lockups with the sound looping. UT is fine, D2 is fine.

    The system,
Vid: Matrox G400 (G550 experiences this as well).
Mem: 2x256 Crucial 133-CAS2 memory sticks,
    Proc, 2x 866 Slot 1 P3,
    Mobo: Supermicro PIIIDME,
    Sound: Creative Labs Audigy Platinum,
    Harddrives: 2x 18 Gig IBM U160 Drives,
    DVD: Pioneer slot loader,
    CDR/w: Plextor 12x10x32
    LAN: Onboard Intel Based 10/100

Harddrives are attached to an Adaptec 29160,
Cd's are attached to an Adaptec 2940,

I'm running all the latest drivers I've found, matrox=5.82,

Depending on the game i can normally play for 5 mins or so before the game locks up solid, either with an instant reboot or with a graphics freeze and the sound goes into a loop.

Can anyone provide any pointers, cos this is starting to drive me nuts

I'd start by looking at the sound card drivers and try reinstalling them. The Audigy isn't exactly an improvement over the SBLive when it comes to problems there, especially when it comes to soundfonts.

      soundcard

Um, I've tried re-installing the drivers, (this was a fresh install over the weekend, not sure what the current driver revision is off the top of my head, Ill check when i get home, I used to have the same problem with the sound blaster Live, I bought the Audigy as a lot of people said that they were a lot happier with SMP.

        Creative SMP don't think so.

          Well I solved it

but only by taking out one of the processors

So, the sooner Creative labs release SMP compatible drivers, i'll be happy.

Don't expect them to release a driver soon. Just get you another soundcard. Creative won't see me anymore . Sacrificing one processor to let your system run stable isn't the best solution.
