  • The only way I can donate to is with cash. Obviously I'm not old enough to have a credit card. No Paypal account or anything like that either. I can give $20 a month or so, but sending cash through the mail doesn't sound too secure

I agree that people who donate shouldn't have any special title under the name. Having ads for people who haven't donated and no ads for people who have donated sounds like a good idea.

    • Flag that trust idea. $1500 set up fee, and $4000 a year audit fees. Just not worth it.

Anyway ANT, get some bank details up, and Ill do a EFT anyway.

      • I have sent a money order to England several times in the past, all I need is a full legal name and an address to send the damn thing! Way too much discussion and not enough action. Ant email me the particulars, I'll do my part.

          • Yes, the banks here in Canada charge a minor fee to prepare the money order. By minor, I mean $25 CDN.

Damn! If I want to send 25$ it'll cost me and extra 25$???? That sucks!

                • Isn't the easiest thing just transferring the money ?
                  (wiretransfer or orther)
All you need to know, is the recipients bank-account number...

                  • From Australia that will cost you $25~$30 to send, and depending on the receiving bank, maybe extra...

So my idea is to collect money (via check/post order/telepathy..) and send it in one big lump to Ant, hence only paying one set of bank fee's between us.

Sorry, my post was not a reaction to yours (it wasn't visible yet).
If I'm not mistaken, Ant is in the UK, so perhaps transferring might be the easiest thing for MURCers in Europe. (I really like to chip in, but I don't intend to send money through the mail )

                      • I just asked at the local post office: Money transfers via snailmail are allowed.

Costs to GB would be shipping fee (not that much) for a standard envelope plus 2.81 EUR for up to 100 EUR, 3.58 EUR for up to 200 EUR, and 4.91 EUR for up to 255 EUR - quite reasonable, if you ask me.

I think every country should have one trustee, whom all those of this country who want to donate send their money to, and he (or she) then sends the money to Ant.

I further think () that at least the Euro-countries should NOT exchange the money to GBP, because Ant will be able to get a better deal for one (hopefully) big chunk of money than we could get for many small amounts.

                        • Hummm - well, Ive been looking to host some stuff of my own (personal) which would need access to a particular box etc. Is MURC on its own box, and on a Linux one? If so, then Id happily pay a big chunk to use some space on the machine (a photo collection + DB, and some scripts for MULTICAST collection work)

Whats the setup ANT? and I could help out with some admin stuff too obviously.

                          • No, MURC is hosted by burst.net, I believe. It's not something you could get a shell or mail account on.

We like him, so he gets presents from us now and then. Now we all organize a collective donation, just out of respect for his work
