        Now, that's not a very nice thing to say. Not to worry though, some day we'll have a realy big quake here and just disappear

              Earthquakes or hurricanes aren't my worry. Not even the tornado's we get several times/summer.

              What I'm really worried about comes down to two overdue events;

              1. the New Madrid fault (along the Mississippi near St. Louis) letting go. From 1812 to 1813 it threw 2000 quakes, five of which were >8.0. The big ones rang church bells in Boston and caused waves several meters high at the surface. The Mississippi's course moved over 3 miles.

              The chances are 50% of a major New Madrid quake any given year in the short term and 90% by 2040.

              2. the Yellowstone super-volcano blowing its cork. Last time it covered all of north america in ash an average of 5" deep. In just a few years its caldera's center has risen a meter and tilted a few degrees. Not a good sign.

              The Yellowstone caldera has a magma chamber 50x20 kilometers in size and blows on a regular cycle of every 600,000 years. The last eruption was 640,000 years ago.

              When Yellowstone finally blows it's estimated over 1000 cubic/km of material will be ejeced. Mt. St. Helens released only 0.24 cubic/km of material.

                You forgot about the Megatsunami which will wipe out the whole eastern seaboard when La Palma blows its top and falls into the Atlantic.

                  Yup...forgot La Palma. That one's pretty scary too, and with its history very likely.

                  Of course we both forgot to mention that some geologists are very concerned about the cracks appearing in Kilauea's southwest rift zone, which if they let go could also produce a megatsunami.

                    Eye is almost due north of us now as a catagory 1 hurricane... been quite windy, with on/off rain but nothing to bad other than some are going to need new roofs and a mess of debri strewn about... worst part of it will be over the next few hours

                    Oh yeah almost forgot, just came in from feeding our friendly squirrels... seems they got a bad case of the munchies and were out in this mess hoping they'd see up and beg for some walnuts
