    remind me, overworked and all
is that font size in post body? or font size of forum post lists?

and apart from completly removing gaps between segments? we have killed most of the wasted space - few tweaks to go.

      Both, Sasq!

If you go into the Guess where this is? thread, GNEP sent a message yesterday (#2508) which comes out beautifully at about the right size. If you compare it with the previous/next messages, you will see the difference and how it reduces the need for scrolling. IMHO. Pretty please!

Brain, what size monitor do you use?
For me at work, quickly glancing at posts in that size on my 14" tft laptop monitor at 1024x768 would send me blind.

          1280 x 1024 18.1" TFT

But the old layout suited me fine.

Experimentally, I'll alter the size, but not the font:
          This is size 1
          This is size 2
          This is size 3
          This is size 4

          This'll give you some ideas.

Size 2 is easy-to read for me, Size 3 is acceptable but Size 4 appears to be the normal.

Brian, what browser and settings are you using?
the default I see, with no size settings in a post is between size 2 and 3.
I have just confirmed with VJ and he sees the same thing.
*sorry I don't have ability to screen cap right at the moment.
can you along with some browswer specs do me a fairly low loss copy of you above post with sizes.

              Brian,

Sasq has asked me to verify some things. Here is a screenshot of how I see the forums. I have tried in 3 different browsers (IE 6.0, FF 1.0 and Opera 7.5), and in all cases the fonts look exactly the same.

Have you changed anything to the fontsettings of your browser?

Joerg (don't have keyboard umlaut and am too lazy to seek one )

Attached, equivalent here, using FF 1.0, default font sizes.

MURC is the only forum system where I have this problem and only since the new version came on line.

That particular post, I was playing with the WYSIWYG editor and set the font to Garamond from the default, and left the size at the default 3. For me, the text appears a similar size (albeit a different font) to the default.

I'm guessing Brian has something funny going on with his own settings for either (a) Windows text sizes or (b) browser text sizes or (c) both...

I really need a full cap of your post above. with the sizes, also I need to see your avatar on the side so I can get some size perspectives, just drop me a low loss jpeg in the mail.

I see the size difference between gneps post and yours, however honestly normal post font size is half way between 2 and 3 on my browser - FF 1.0.1 with no font changes.
It *IS* possible for some strange reason your PC doesn't have the default font installed, or your browser is not loading it for some reason, and defaulting to a font that is larger.

Just for test purposes (I'm not trying to get you to move to another browser ), how does it look in Internet Explorer?

I don't mind the new look, it will take some time to get used to it, I did like the old style a lot though.

Being a mini-Murcer I don't expect my opinion to count for squat, but I'm okay with the colours. Except I'd prefer the 'New Posts' indicator when viewing the top level of the forums to be a slightly bolder colour blue. The pastel blue/violet is a little indistinct compared to the 'No New Posts' one.
