So according to my Body Mass Index ( what a load of crap that is) .. I am to be between 173lbs and 228lbs.. so much for the current 295
if I drop to 173lbs, I will end up on life support I am afraid/.. that said, I could still stand to loose some 40 - 50 lbs.. I will accept the challenge and change my body mass index to something lower than the current 32.4kg/m^2
(is it just me, or is the formular for calculating BMI not assuming you to be a 2-dimensional character? )We have enough youth - What we need is a fountain of smart!

Count me in! And thank goodness for dimensionless axis
Since Christmas I have lost ~18 pounds, mainly in the first 6-8 weeks and through less drinking and a protein bias (following Dr Atkins strictly would be madness imo). Set against losing weight I was training for a sponsored swim (2,500m, which I completed yesterday in 1hr 23 mins and raised nearly £300 for charity), so that made the lack of carbs a bit hard to cope with so probably haven't lost anything in the last month (especially coupled with a week in the USA).
So bottom line, I'm up for getting back into it properly - lets agree a protocol.
As an aside, I got some digital scales at the start of this that measure body fat and calc BMI. At first it gave an error, but I fixed that by telling it I was 7feet 2 inches tallFT.

I'm already losing weight that i put on last year starting last year at unhealthy rates ofcourse. but i think mainly due to the no longer medical conditions that were no longer around come nov/dec.
anyway. im up for the challenge considering that ive already started mine :P
i work out now for 2 hours a day for 4 days a week. and play raquetball the other 2 days a week.
during my workout i run for 20 mins, bike for 20 mins, and stairs for 20 mins, then i do 3 sets of weights 10 reps to each set for 30 mins, and then swim for 30 mins.
my diet is:
breakfast:
egg whites
oatmeal
lunch:
sushi
dinner:
fish or steak
veggies
salad
liquid:
water
green tea
coffee/no sugar/no milk <--very depressing. but getting used to it.
activities:
smoking
and there you have it.

I've been holding pretty steady at 230lbs (104.3kg) for quite a while now. I'd like to get down to around 210lbs. I'm doing a little more walking now that I take the train to work, I'm playing hockey once a week, and going rock climbing once a week. That's about it for exercise right now. Maybe I'll break out the bike once in a while too.
I'm not sure if I'm going to join the challenge, but if I make any progress I'll post updates once in a while.Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. I might be able to lose 10lbs, but I think I'd rather keep my current weight and replace fat with muscle. Anybody up for strength improvement?Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. strength improvement, huh? how do you want to measure it? and what about endurance?
the fitness plan that I am about to start up will be something like... morning PT (1-1.5 hours, depending. usually streching, running and some muscle - probably going to be more so in the next month and a half) and then after work my aim is an hour of cardio, then an hour of muscle improvement with the time being increased as i go on. it might be an hour on a bike, then an hour of regional muscle failure. it might be some bike, some stairs then endurance. it might be an 8+ mile ruck march. not quite sure yet, but it will be done. muahahahah!
also... on the topic of protein shakes... almost all dietary/fitness suplements are extremely dangerous if you are not drinking enough water. most people really don't know what "enough" water is and most people suffer effects of dehydration without even realising it. you have to constantly be drinking water when using these products so that your body is capable of flushing itself."And yet, after spending 20+ years trying to evolve the user interface into something better, what's the most powerful improvement Apple was able to make? Scales were a little kinder first thing in the morning.
109kg - 240lbs
target 85 - 87kg (about 190lbs) stop when my body says this is good.
Too much beer and chocies in my diet atm, see my arrrggghh thread for details
target is 1.5kg or so a week, first few weeks I usually shed more then slow down
Let the group challenge begin.
Edit
forgot to add, I'm 182cm - 6'1" and I have a heavy frame.
I to if I stuck to the recomended BMI blah blah would snap in a light breezeLast edited by Sasq; 21 March 2005, 16:00.Juu nin to iro

I reckon one of the best ways to measure improvement in fitness is by doing a 2000m on the rowing machine, most places have concept II machines, and trying to get your time down. Used to be able to do it in 8 minutes. The machines are boring as hell though.______________________________

Can I count my progress of the last 3 years? I've lost 90 pounds in that time, but making it a point to do it SLOWLY.
The last time I lost it fast I ended up sick as a dog and almost had to be hospitalized.
How have I done it? Not easy given the limitations of my bad leg, but basically;
1. be as active as possible, to the point of walking the mall every day even if the leg is killing me.
2. cut out the pop, drink only lowfat milk (1/2%) & water and limit treats severely (1-2 times/month)
3. as for the water, lots of it, including my favorites which are fruit flavored waters (esp. Tangerine Lime & Key Lime)
4. high protein, low processed carbs but LOTS of unprocessed carbs.
5. In keeping with this; eat bran flakes for breakfast.
6. switched to Splenda as a sweetener for cereal etc.
7. take vitamin supplements daily, but not ones with an excess of vitamins A, E or Iron. Too much of those can be troublesome.
