Yup. I'd have turned it around and told exactly why that little op had been done: to expose black ops by the Democrats.

Once you establish that both sides are playing the same game they'd have shut up in short order to cover their own arses.

Imagine for a moment if Clinton had tried what Nixon did.

"I'm afaid I can't testify about Monica because it might compromise an ongoing CIA operation."

His backside would still have the bruise from being hit by the White House door knob.

I was listening to the radio this morning and they stated that Mark Felt was mentioned on the watergate tapes as the leak for the information, so why all the mystery for the past 30 odd years?
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Well, Nixon and crew suspected him.
But then, they were suspicious of everyone.
So it didn't add much to the debate.

You may recall that those exact words were spoken by countless people at that time. He was doomed since "Checkers".

That's true. It's certainly not a surprise, however. He had both reason and means. Here's an interesting article from 1992 which points to Felt:

Twenty years after Watergate we still do not know the identity of the secret source who gave Bob Woodward, of The Washington Post, information that led to the downfall of President Richard Nixon. But the author, a former colleague of Woodward's at the Post, reveals something almost as important about the source, which throws new light on an old scandal

In hindsight, it appears to be right on the money.
