Lets be honest, 90% of users don't need an OS. They need Office-type apps and a web browser. Anything else just gets in the way of what they want to do. I'll bet most of them have never been into Windows Explorer or Control Panel either. The closest they'll come to file management is scrolling through My Docs from inside Word.

I'm not being a snob here, its just how I see it for most users.
    FT.

Wasn't PowerPoint solely created for the purpose of getting images past attachment filters?

Tech support IS huge, People seem to shut down large parts of their higher brain functions when sitting in front of a computer.

I found something interesting on the net today. Apparently someone took thinstall and used it to make the Office 2007 Enterprise apps stand alone so they can be run off a CD or USB thumb drive. I couldn't resist, so I downloaded it and sure enough, Word 2007 popped right up without any prompts and works like a champ.

This thinstall thing is pretty cool.

Yeah, it's a tool made for corporate types and developers, thus the hefty price tag. Though I did do some research on it, and it's like a self contained virtual machine, but for a single application. They very ingeniously call it software virtualization. It has self contained registry and file system and everything. It's a smart application if you want to run apps in a locked down windows environment, or want to quickly deploy software. If only it wasn't so pricey.
