These guys are getting down to the nitty-gritty.
The 2008 Detroit North American Auto Show will be held from January 13 through January 27.
* January 13-15 — Press days
* January 16-17 — Industry days
* January 18 — Charity preview
* January 19-27 — Open to the public
It's leaked that a major set of E-Flex tech presentations, and several surprises, will be held during the press days and will also be there during the public exhibition.
Rumors for the surprises run from a final body design and running gear displays to announcements for several other models other than the Chevy Volt. An E-Flex Cadillac, possibly powered by a fuel cell, is almost a sure thing as well as the Opel ReCharge and the fuel cell Equinox SUV.
There is also news on the management front. The E-Flex team has consisted of Frank Weber as line executive, Tony Posawatz as line director and Nick Zielinski as chief engineer for the gas/diesel Volt.
It's now known that a new position has been created. Nick Zielinski has taken on both the fuel-cell Volt & Equinox and the new position will be filled by Andrew Farah as the chief engineer for the gas/diesel Volt.
This seems to confirm that GM plans on developing/producing both the fuel cell and gas/diesel versions of the Volt in parallel, and are working towards expanding the E-Flex program into a whole series of vehicles with multiple power options.
