Merriam-Webster has the rotten wood definition but not the bread, as also does Collins, but without the US context. Collins puts it earlier than Oxford in this sense (16th c), so it is more likely to be of English origin, and gives an additional definition related to the wood as tinder, the touchpaper used for igniting fireworks.

Those "US/N. American" terms for wood and bread might be used somewhere, but not here. Such wood is called "dry rot" and the only combination of punk and bread I'm aware of is a band from Florida called Whole Wheat Bread.

Nicely pointed out Brian.
I had the same thought, but my execution would have been a lot lot worse

By the blood on the front entryway. They broke the door jamb defeating the lock plate (old house - the new one has a steel door and frame), but in trying to remove the chain the perp stuck his arm through the opening and..... They found the creep at the local ER getting >100 stitches in his forearm.Originally posted by Nowhere View PostHow can you know if you're not around then?

How can you know if you're not around then?
PS. And please, "punks" is not appriopriate IMHO
People who could be appriopriatelly described that way are rather no problematic (where it counts; and at least here; which doesn't protect them from beeing buggered for no sensible reason...)

If someone had done that at our house Spike would have eaten them . No if, and or maybe about it. Nice, friendly dog unless we aren't home then he becomes Cujo.

Some good watch-dogs there.
One of the intruders was reportedly eating cheese from the woman's fridge while he robbed the place. As one pundit said, it will probably be his last good meal for a while.

Busted!
So these two punks break into the house of a woman in Florida. What the morons don't know is that she has a remote motion activated video feed to her office computer because of previous burglaries. She sees them in the house & calls the cops. About half way through they realize they have visitors.
