I've had a lot of trouble capturing DV input over the last few months and until today suspected I had software problems. What I now know is that there is a problem with my firewire cable and/or connection into my DV camera. What I was experiencing was pixelation of frame followed by apparent freeze of input going into PC. Capture suspended itself.
Today I started wiggling the firewire cable going into my 4-pin camera socket and to my delight capture then continued. So my conclusion is I either have a faulty cable or the connection into my camera is bad.
Has anyone else had such problems? Are they very common? If I buy a new cable what are considered to be of the highest quality?
