  • MSP6, Timeline patch, etc.

Another friday, almost here... will the MSP6 timeline export via 1394 be released?

Actually, ever since MSP6 came out, I've been having a lot of fun capturing, editing, and exporting DV via my cheap-o 1394 card. For projects longer than the filesize limitation, I've just broken them up into scenes and played those back into a linear edit style onto my camcorder. It's really nice that my DV camcorder is so precise, so I get no glitches between scenes. Then I just play the whole thing out to my VHS copies, and it really looks great.

It would be little easier, and eliminate playing the final tape over and over for my copies, if I could simply play back the whole project from the timeline and feed it direct to VHS through my converter. But I'm certainly not going to let that prevent me from getting anything done.

Hopefully, the ensuing patch will also handle issues with timeline previews that are, essentially, unusable for final copies. I have seen that the current 6.0 version tends to hang here and there while playing back the timeline, as if it's having trouble with seek and loading of preview files from the HD. This was never a problem when I was using the rainbow runner, so it's strange that DV would be a problem in this regard.

It would also be helpful if Ulead could be more specific about any memory settings that could be recommended, since MSP has always seemed to be at odds with Windows in handling memory, paging and so forth. I still get crashes in the editor if I don't save my project after every action I do. You'd think that 256meg of memory would be enough, along with a fixed swap file size, vcache settings, and so forth...

    But I digress.

Tomorrow's friday. Are we there yet?
