If you're using Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0 to edit MPEGs recorded by Panasonic's DVD disc camcorder or MPEGs recorded by Panasonic player/recorders:
To overcome potential loss of video/audio synchronization that might result after you edit and record such MPEG-2 source files to DVD or CD discs, you should add an entry to the configuration file of Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.01 prior to beginning your editing project. On my Windows XP computer:
1. I clicked START;
2. I clicked MY COMPUTER;
3. I clicked C: drive;
4. I clicked the DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS folder;
5. In the WINDOWS TOOLS menu, I clicked FOLDER OPTIONS;
6. I clicked the VIEW tab;
7. I ticked the option to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS;
8. I clicked OK;
9. I clicked the ALL USERS folder;
10. I clicked the APPLICATION DATA folder;
11. I clicked the ULEAD SYSTEMS folder;
12. I clicked the ULEAD MEDIASTUDIO PRO folder;
13. I clicked the 7.0 folder;
14. I clicked the MSP I-N-I (configuration) file;
15. Under the [VIODRIVER] heading, I typed CloseAudioDTR=1;
16. I saved the change.
By adding this entry, I am able to edit the DVD camcorder MPEG files and export them to become a single DVD-ready MPEG-2 file.
As long as my Ulead MediaStudio Pro project settings match the properties of the source MPEG, I only observe re-encoding of the timeline audio.
The video, however, remains *untouched* - no re-rendering of the video occurs except where the video has been changed by titles, transitions, or filters.
By adding the above entry, the MPEG video and audio synchronization is perfect in my tests - even after the edited file is burned to a DVD or CD disc with custom menus.
I've add this information to my tutorial about how to capture from the Panasonic VDR-M30 DVD disc camcorder.
