  • P650, Premiere 6.5, MC DV codec overlay problem

I've tried searching your forum and Main Concept's but I seem to have a unique problem that is totally reproducible.

Using Adobe Premiere 6.5 (NTSC DV preset) with Win2k or XP, a Matrox P650, and the MainConcept DV Codec 2.4.4, I get a full 720x480 video displayed over other windows when I play/scrub the timeline. This only happens on portions of the video where I have a filter or transition that hasn't been rendered.

If I deinstall the MC codec, forcing Premiere to use the Microsoft DV codec, the problem goes away. The problem also goes away if I use an Nvidia Gforce video card instead of the P650. It only happens in Premiere 6.5, Premiere Pro works fine (but I hate PPro!).

To explain it a bit better, this bogus "overlay" is directly over the top of the normal Premiere timeline monitor window, with bottom left corner of the window matching the correct monitor window display area bottom left corner.

It is as if someone somewhere forgot to scale the video returning from the codec back to the defined monitor window size.

Disabling DVDMax in video prefs or disabling scrub output to DVD in Premiere has no effect.

Now this problem only happens in Premiere and only with the Matrox P series video card.

Note that I can reproduce this on a clean Win2k (service pack 1 or 4), DX 8 or 9b, Premiere and the DV codec. This whole setup is done on an Abit AN7 motherboard with an Athlon XP 3000+ processor.

Have you heard of this before? It fails with any version of the P650 driver.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Tibor
