help!! .....newbie with firewire at his throat!!

I have a Sony dcrtrv120, and I just purchased Belkins f5u501 ieee 1394 firw wire card with MGIs videowave IIIse as package deal. Every time I try to capture digital video straight from my camera I get a message from Video wave "could not detect DV controller". I'm sure it is probably an easy fix but I am becoming frustrated. The card seems to be installed and functioning ok.
PLEASE someone....save me.
