  • About the Marvel G400 fiasco

I think Matrox is a lame excuse of a company with a terribly arrogant attitude towards its customers, and everybody that has the chance should sue them mercyless. Their total lack of respect for their customers is outrageous. I’m one of many ripped off customers that were a victim of the Marvel G400 fiasco and I can’t wait to get this piece of crap out of my system, break it and throw it away, and of course, never buy any Matrox product again. I’ll always regret the day I decided to buy this card because it gave me nothing but headaches, and as soon as I have the money I’ll buy a new graphics card that works as it should and is properly supported by its manufacturer. What Matrox did by ceasing development of drivers for all platforms except for the upcoming Windows 2000 “drivers” (which are a total joke of course, given that I bought a capture card with a hardware codec and now I’ll be stuck with a software codec) shows that this is a company that deserves the biggest punishment law can provide for ripping off thousands of customers that didn’t know what they were getting into when they bought a Matrox product. Some may argue that the Marvel G400 was a product only intended for Windows 98, something that is absolutely pathetic nowadays since Windows 2000 is used by millions of home users, it’s not like the old days where NT was used almost strictly by companies. Since the year 2000, it’s unacceptable that any product doesn’t have proper drivers for Windows 2000. But let’s suppose that this product works really great in Windows 98, and specially that its hardware codec works as that category of codec should work, one can say that at least the product works flawlessly in the OS it was made for. But as many people know, the Mjpeg hardware codec Matrox provides is of bad quality and generally useless, as it only can be used to capture and play the captured video, but not for flexible editing with Premiere and most NLEs. Its quality, even at the highest available quality is at the best regular, when software only mjpeg codecs such as PicVideo offer much better quality. If one tries to extract the video to convert to another codec, it takes forever, when the same conversion done with a decent codec is minimum four times faster.
But the joke doesn’t stop there: I recently read that Matrox won’t support this card in Windows XP, which is just a few months away, and that is an outrageous insult to customers. I bought this piece of junk in January of this year right from the Matrox Store while I was spending some time in the USA, and I didn’t become aware of the disaster this thing was until I returned home, and now I can’t possibly send it back for a refund, although I would’ve done if I was still there, and actually I would sue this lame excuse of a company. I spent 300 bucks for a product that they will not support in Windows XP, so in November I will have to throw it away and buy a new card from a decent manufacturer. Luckily, many ripped off customers are aware of the dishonest way of making money of this company and will never buy any products from them again, as many have posted so in the Matrox and Matroxusers forums.

I can’t possibly explain all my disgust towards this company, but one thing is for sure: Those $300 are the only money Matrox stole from me and ever will.
