Some good news for a change ... (from TELE-satellite newsletter http://www.TELE-satellite.com/ )
SATELLITE TV TAX AXED
A proposed tax on satellite TV services in California, legislation that
opponents said was being pushed by the cable industry, was axed by state
lawmakers in Sacramento. The death of the 5 per cent California dish tax
was good news for the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association
and its president, Andy Wright. “This is a huge win for California
consumers,” he said. “Such a measure would have placed an unfair,
anti-competitive burden on consumers who have opted for satellite
television, the only true competitor to cable,” Wright said. “As an
industry, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our efforts to
protect our customers by remaining on guard against anti-competitive
legislative proposals at the federal, state and local levels.”
