So I've got this SQl Server 2005 SP2 running on:
AMD 64 X2 4400+
2 Gb
146GB SATA Raid 0 (2x73GB WD Raptors), OS etc on seperate 7200 rpm drive
Win XP
It's a small thingy but the SPs take a long time to run (and my guess is indexing or query optimising won't change that a lot, ahem).
So I am looking for an easy way to improve performance.
- Should I expect better performance by migrating to WinXP 64 / SQL Server 64 bit?
- Could I try increasing to 4GB while running WinXP 32 bit or do I need 64 bit to potentially benefit?
- Because it is my development machine, loads of files are by now stored at the end of the HD. Is there a program that would re-allocate files to the start of the drive? Defrag puts m together but does not seem to move them...
