HP 6735s + SSD = Problems ?

From what I can find, its an AHCI driver issue.
If I use the standard Microsoft Driver, I get a 60s pause, but the TRIM should function.
If I use the AMD driver, it will be faster to boot and use, but I will lose the TRIM function (As far as I have seen).

It has been mentioned that the disks Firmware should do garbage collection anyway, and that the TRIM function might not be essential...

I have a htpc that use to pause during boot like that, it 790gx chipset.
I was not to worried because its on most of the time, however at some point I have updated something and the boot pause was fixed.

I have set as AHCI and the version of driver I am using now is 1.2.0.125 from AMD. It has to either be this driver or the firmware update that fixed it.

I used the latest packaged driver from my motherboard manufacturer(gigabyte), if you can't find your equivalent you could try to using AMD southbridge driver, it has just been updated in the last week.

My main computer use the exact same model SSD and it has never had any issues at all and boots very quickly (790fx chipset.) , it uses the AHCI RAID driver though. (SSD to for boot and 2x 1T in RAID0 for stuff)

Yeah, the southbridge driver would probably fix it, but it would also remove the TRIM capability of the SSD....

So i prefer to wait and keep TRIM

I am having memory probs now, it seems that HP is VERY selective on what memory will work in their machines, and Corsair isn't one of them.

I may have some Crucial memory in my HTPC, i'll have to give that a go, and try with another kit of 2x512Mb sticks....

So, the story continues.....

Tried the 2x2Gb ram that is in my HTPC, which also has a 780G chipset (and works in dual channel), and I get the same result, only single channel memory.

Bought 2x2Gb of RAM which is HP Branded, and twice as expensive, same result.

Currently awaiting a reply on the HP business support forums.

I want an explanation as to why it is so hard to get dual channel memory support on this laptop, and why the HP Branded memory will not function properly in an HP PC.

No reply as yet....

edit : I have to point out that the chipset does not control the RAM, the CPU does, but its a QL-62, which has a dual channel 333MHz memory controller....so it should be working....
