Gamma defect on HDMI

Is anyone here knowledgeable about this supposed gamma defect on the current HDMI chips? Supposedly they're 20 percent out of spec which is causing many manufacturers to hold off and/or scramble to address the problem. I've luckily only invested in DVI-I/D equipment so far.
