G400 Max and AOE 2

Well I know this is 2D but the perfomance in this game is abysmal for me. The scrolling is super choppy and everything is just jittery in general. I'm pretty sure this is not supposed to happen with this video card on a P3 450 OC'd to 517. Anyone know any settings I should have on or off in Windows or in the game when playing. I play with the game set at 1024x768 with medium detail.

...and you must find the Jade Monkey before the next full moon...uhh sir we found the Jade Monkey it was in your glove box... and the road maps and ice scraper... yes, they were in there too... excellent, its all coming into place...
