  • POLL - TFC 1.1.0.8 patch

Since the last 'upgrade patch' Valve have introduced a whole new range of bugs into what was a good game.
I've played TFC for a while now, and I like to think I'm fairly conversant with the way the game plays & works. It isnt just me saying this either - a lot of players I've met seem to be complaining about the same things.

    1) Since the 1107 update I havent been able to use OpenGL without crashing, and since the 1108 update D3D mode crashes on me too occasionally.

    2) Its laggy, with increased occurances of 'CL_Flushentity Packet'

    3) When joining a new server or new map, sometimes you cant select a team or specate, and have to disconnect and reconnect to the server.

    4) The aiming for snipers has gone all over the place (for example, playing last night I had a spy charge straight for me - no dodging at all - so I hit him in the chest with a full power snipe at medium range. Nothing. So I hit him again with a weak shot - Still nothing. Then several times I've taken a quick snapshots at the enemy, knowing full well I've missed by a mile, and the game reports I blew their heads off. )

    5) Maybe its just me, but there seem to be a lot more HWGs around and they're harder to kill with a sniper rifle than they used to be. At the same time the blast radius for grenades seems to have increased a lot. Or maybe they've just screwed around with the snipers?

    6) The voice comms are muffled at best, unintelligable at worst, and others claim it lags them badly when someone uses it.

However, on the plus side, I do seem to have higher FPS and faster play now. At least when it isnt lagging or FlushEntity Packeting on me.
Oh, and they got rid of the damn lame Bunny Hopping!

I've been bitten by the "can't join a team" bug. Just type reconnect in the console and you'll rejoin the server - you don't lose your spot or anything (good for those crowded servers).

Anything else, I've not seen any difference. I disabled the voice comm stuff - I have no desire to hear ppl on a pub & for clan matches we use Roger Wilco anyway.

Rather than the patch, I'm most disappointed that PunkBuster is no longer supporting Half-Life mods. Don't know the entire story but apparently, PB wants to integrate tighter into the HL engine but Valve isn't interested. Competitive TFC (and esp. CS) is now done. HLTV is not the answer, though it is pretty cool.

If you check out punkbuster's site, it has their side. I kind of get the impression that PB wants Valve to hire them. That doesn't bother me. I wouldn't have bought HL if it weren't for CS.

But CS is getting so bad lately. I haven't been to a server yet that hasn't had a cheater on it. And sites like halflifehacked really piss me off.

Maybe Valve is dropping HL for newer games. That would piss me off even more. I've decided that I won't buy the new HL add-on unless they fix the cheating. I won't buy any other games of their either.
