Mouse cursor in MM7 is screwy

I am using a G400Max in an Abit BH6/pII450 64mb/awe32. When playing Might and Magic 7 from 3D0 the mouse cursor is invisible until the mouse is moved, then it appears to flicker badly and has a black box around it. I have tried all the sugestions in the manual, turning off "Device bitmap caching" etc. did not help. Any suggestions or is this just a matter of waiting for more mature drivers?
