Let me build it.

Me and a friend are about to start our own Repair/Building Computer business this summer to pick up some extra cash. Nothing too big, and should be fun if nothing else.

The problem is that the margins are crap. I was going to do exactly that with a friend of mine, but just as we were going to get into the business the prices all dropped out.

Let me be blunt.

If you get ONE support call for a system, your profit is cut drastically.

If you get TWO support calls for a system, you barely break even.

If you get THREE support calls for a system, you lose money.

That's the way it works if you want to stay competitive.

Now, this DOES depend on where you live. Some local shops here just hideously overcharge, because they're local... but they lose a LOT of business to Dell.

Like I said, it isn't going to be big. And this is San Marcos where this sort of thing just isn't very big anyway. But we won't be spending any money to really get this going (a friend is lending part of his business place to us, no charge), so if it doesn't work at all, no big deal. If it does, then that's even better.

Yeah, just be careful. That's all.

And keeping ANYTHING in stock in this volatile market is almost a death-sentence, unless you think you can reasonably build it all into machines almost immediately if need be.
